Untitled

The song that April plays at the open mic, at the beginning of the novel, called Untitled, symbolizes her fledgling attempt to delineate her identity. While the song is about her relationship with Matty, and finding love, she cannot choose a title. Similarly, she does not know how to pinpoint her own identity, despite having a profound self-awareness. She chooses to run away from delineating her identity instead of recognizing her loyalty, creativity, and inherent worth.

The Fingerless Gloves

The fingerless gloves that April wears to cover her bandage symbolize her desire to obscure her identity.
