Part 4, Cecilia: Chapters 2-3 Summary
In chapter 2, it is the first day of summer break and Sissy goes to the kitchen at St. Elizabeth's to have lunch. Rose offers to give her driving lessons. After some hesitation, Sissy insists that her mother take her in her own car, the Dodge Duster she drove from California. Rose agrees. As Sissy slowly gets over her fear of driving, she notices that her mother is more willing to talk about herself in the car. Sissy learns that her mother used to love to drive and that her father died in a car accident. Sissy has always felt abandoned by her mother, especially after she moved back to the groundskeeper's house. Learning new things about her mother is like a gift she never thought she would get.
