Part 3, Son: Chapters 1-2 Summary
In chapter 1 of part 3, Son argues with Rose for weeks about naming the baby Cecilia, after his tattoo, but she refuses to back down. Rose asks him about the tattoo often, but never asks about the girl whose name it showcases. Son never asks Rose about her past, either. It is like an unspoken rule between them. On the day Angie goes into labor, Rose insists that she and Son will drive her. Rose is nervous while Angie labors in the hospital, constantly asking the nurses how she is doing. Finally the doctor comes out and tells Rose that the baby had the cord around its neck and died.
