Family
The way all of the characters portray their family roles helps to further character development as well as to advance the narrative as the Crane siblings gather for their final vacation together. Alice's concept of family is more relaxed. She thinks that everything in the family is fine and she keeps an optimistic view of things at all times. She sees nothing wrong in this and tries to share her outlook with the others. As for Harriet, she is the one who kept the family together and organized after the death of their mother.
Roland is more of the outsider of the group. While he loves his sisters, it is perceived that he can only handle them in small doses. With the vacation spanning over three weeks, he is quickly tired of dealing with them. There is not a great deal of interaction solely between himself...
