Alice Crane
Alice is the first of the siblings to be introduced in the narrative. A failed actress, Alice is usually over-dramatic when she wants to emphasize a notion or express how she feels about something. She brings along her former lover's son, Kasim, to the family vacation as he wants to get away from both of his parents, but it is slightly hinted that Alice is attracted to Kasim in the way that she is sometimes flirtatious with him.
Alice is seen as very insensitive, inconsiderate, and selfish, first for inviting Kasim to a private family gathering, forcing Fran to have to share a bedroom with her children. Next, she reads Roland's letters to their mother out loud, causing him to become embarrassed and starting a fight with Pilar. After finding Harriet in the creek, Alice wants to be carefully waited on as well, even getting slightly offended...
