Summary
Chapter 52 is titled “Botille.” Guilhem reads the sentence against Jacme and Andrio. They are each to get lashes, which everyone expects, but they are also to be branded on the forehead. Lucien says he forgives both men. Jacme is clearly furious and calls Lucien a “fool,” then says they may think that Dolssa is dead, but they should “follow the tavern cat” (362).
Chapter 53 is titled “Botille.” Several people are obviously glad to learn that Dolssa is not dead. Botille sees Hugo leave the gathering and head for the vineyard. Botille knows this means she and her sisters will be executed for harboring a heretic. Raimon says they will find Dolssa and execute her now. Lisette cries out and Raimon questions her.
