Summary
Chapter 10 is titled “Lucien de Saint-Honore.” Lucien is with other church officials who are upset that Dolssa escaped. They question Senhor Hugo, the knight who was standing guard nearby, but he says he saw no one near Dolssa when she escaped. (It will later be revealed that he helped her.) They discuss the possibilities and the bishop says Dolssa probably had a knife. He says the “heretics often display a most diabolical will to survive” (52). The bishop says Dolssa has never needed to do anything for herself (her family is wealthy and she has servants), and that she might die on the run. He says the people need to see her execution. He cites the increased number of people who attend mass after an execution.
