Bobby Western
Bobby Western is the main character of the novel. In the narrative present, Bobby is living in Pass Christian, Mississippi. He is residing in an apartment by himself with his cat. He works as a salvage diver for a company referred to as Taylor’s throughout the novel. Bobby spends the majority of his days working diving jobs and spending time with his companions at local bars, restaurants, and cafés.
Although 10 years have passed since his sister Alicia’s death, Bobby is still mourning his sister’s passing and absence from his life in the narrative present. All of Bobby’s friends, coworkers, companions, and acquaintances know that Bobby had a complicated connection with his sister.
