Antoine’s treatment of the statue, the way he shoves it off its base destroying it, when he is angry with Dominque is an illustration of the way men treat women when they feel a woman is being unreasonable. In this case, Antoine had raised his hand to hit Dominque. Jess kept him from hurting Dominique by letting him know someone was watching what he was doing. Instead, he takes his anger out on the statue.
