Number twelve, Rue des Amants is the address of the building in which the Meunier family lives. The majority of the action of the novel takes place in this building. When Jess arrived at the building to visit her brother, she believed that he lived in an apartment building in which the residents were not related. She was shocked to learn that Ben was living in a family home. Mimi kills her father in the third-floor apartment when she sees him hitting Ben with a wine bottle. Sophie buries Jacques in the courtyard and hides Ben in the attic so that her stepsons will believe it was Ben who died.
