Love
Love is an important theme in the novel “The Paper Magician” by Charlie N. Homberg. Love appears in the novel in two distinct ways. There is romantic love, and there is the love of creation. Both forms of love are incredibly important to the plot of the novel.
Romantic love is seen primarily through Ceony’s falling in love with Thane throughout the novel. When the novel begins, Ceony dreads even having to apprentice with Thane, but within days, she has warmed up to him. Within a few weeks, she has romantic feelings for him that she doesn’t realize as such yet. These are expressed in the care she gives him, helping to tend to household chores.
