Summary

The next chapter is titled “Report of Edgar A. Poe to Augustus Landor” and dated November 17th. Poe's life changed because of his love for Lea. He was elated to find a message from Lea asking to meet. She looked fine and thanked him for his help “in her hour of need” (247). Poe told Lea he likes winter because the leaves interrupt “God's originating design.” Lea remarked on his reference to God, but then trailed off. She asked about his life, and he said his parents were famous actors who died in a theater fire. He was adopted by Mr. Allan who is stingy. They discussed whether the dead remain present because they are loved too much or because they are forgotten. When Lea said she found love after her episode in the cemetery, Poe fainted.
