Summary

The next chapter is titled “Narrative of Gus Landor: 9” and dated October 31st. Hitchcock is upset at the news that cows and sheep have been killed and their hearts removed. On Sunday, Landor notes that people on a riverboat are staring at the hotel. He then watches as Poe climbs through his third-story window. Poe says he was trying to avoid being seen coming directly to Landor's room. They discuss the note Poe took from Fry's hand. Landor disagrees with some of Poe's conclusions. They discuss that a woman might have written the note, summoning Fry to a specific place. They talk then of other things.
