Late November 1997. Gus and James immediately call Jordan McAfee, Chris's lawyer, who meets them down at the police station. Chris has already been booked and put in a cell. Jordan meets with him, explaining that he will have to remain in jail until the next morning when he can be arraigned. In the meantime, Chris will be moved to the Sheriff's jail. Chris is again booked, searched and placed in a cell. James and Gus spend a restless night, with James witnessing Gus crying in the darkness of the laundry room but doing nothing to comfort her.
