From the chestnut groves of early Brooklyn to the redwood forests of California and Oregon in the 1990's, the novel travels the history of trees and humans.

Mimas's crown is where readers and three main characters discover the wonder of old growth trees. It is an ethereal place that has its own biome and is a place of wonder. It teaches the readers and characters much about trees and how they grow and live. The connection to this tree and place is so strong that it is felt when the loggers come to cut it down.
