Summary
Douglas Pavlicek's chapter begins in his first person narration as he is a young man who has just started participating in the Stanford Prison Experiment conducted by Philip Zimbardo in 1971. He is given the prisoner number 571 and tries to keep his head down and last the fourteen days in order to get his paycheck. He notices that no one break character in these experiments and that all of these people are dangerous and out of control. Douglas tries to be nonaligned during the experiment, but it is hard to do so. He details the horrors of the experiments and he wonders to himself if he could deal with being locked up in prison for committing a crime. He decides that he would be nothing if that happened.
