Detective Ralph Anderson

Detective Ralph Anderson is the main character in the novel. He is challenged through the investigation of a murder he originally believed was perpetrated by Terry, an upstanding citizen, to believe in the supernatural.

Because Ralph has a young son who played Little League ball with Terry, Ralph insists that Terry be arrested as soon as possible. In fact, he is the one who orders that Terry be arrested during the game. In hindsight, Ralph realizes that this high profile arrest was a big mistake. First, the investigating officers did not talk to Terry about an alibi because they believed they had an airtight case against him. They had Terry’s fingerprints at the scene of the murder and in the vehicle used to abduct the child who was killed.
