Sade Solaja
Sade Solaja is a twelve-year-old girl from Nigeria who loses her mother in a tragic murder related to her father's outspoken journalism against the corruption and military power in the country. She and her younger brother, Femi flee the country to go to England illegally, beginning a new life with a foster family while anxiously waiting for their father arrive in the country.
In the beginning of the novel, Sade is a carefree young girl who enjoys school, books, and playing with her brother. However, she is forced to mature in order to take care of both herself and Femi in an unfamiliar and dangerous situation. Her mother's death leads Sade down the path of self-discovery and strengthening.
Throughout the novel, Sade morphs from a young girl who has not ever been wholly responsible for herself into a young girl who begins to take responsibility for herself...
