Summary
The children continue to wander around London, abandoned by their Uncle Dele. Sade fears that “if anyone asked where they came from and what they were doing, whatever should they say?” (61). Both Sade and Femi realize they are growing hungry, finding “a shop with plantains and yams piled up by the doorway…the shop smelled of Lagos” (63). However, the children have no remaining money and must continue on without food. Femi, incredibly tired, attempts to lay down in an alleyway but is accosted by an aggressive homeless man who steals Sade’s bag before they flee. They enter a video store, seeking safety from the man. After the video store owner asks the children what they want, a gang of teenage boys enter the store and begin kicking over displays and shouting.
