Chapter 5 Summary
Dad worries about her being alone, and Stacy is about to say Mom will be there until she reminds herself that Mom will not. Instead, she says she needs to go to school, but Dad points out she was just finishing seventh grade and is not prepared for eleventh grade, suggesting homeschooling, but Stacy suggests maybe she can make up eighth grade over the summer and start high school in the fall. She promises to work real hard, but when she mentions Mom, she apologizes because she keeps forgetting. Dad forgets too, and he does not know if it will ever stop hurting. He tells Stacy that hate is not the answer. When Monty bursts into the room with Stacy's dinner tray, Dad tells him to knock from now on before leaving for work.
