Chapter 2 Summary
Replaying how she ran to check on Mom in the morning, Stacy demands the murderer show her his face because she remembers that he is someone she knows. As Stacy eats breakfast, a girl appears in the doorway, and she does not recognize her best friend, Jan Briley, at first. Jan brings makeup for Stacy, but Stacy does not know how to apply it since she still feels like she is thirteen years old. Jan tells Stacy how sad she was when they thought Stacy might die and how happy she was when Dad told her Stacy had woke up. As Jan does her makeup, Stacy thinks of how they used to have slumber parties on Friday nights and wishes Jan would go away.
