Summary
In “Sadie,” Will and Sadie Foust and their sons, Tate, 7, and Otto, 14, arrive at the house they inherited when Will’s sister, Alice, died by suicide. Sadie did not want to come to Maine, but Will insisted they needed a fresh start.
Imogen, Alice’s 16-year-old daughter, stands at the head of the stairs. She is dressed in Goth attire and warns them to stay away from her. Will and Sadie have accepted guardianship of Imogen until she is 18. She scares Sadie.
In “Sadie,” seven weeks later, Will and Sadie are awakened by the sound of a siren. They think something must have happened to the Nilssons, an elderly couple who lives down the street from them.
In the morning, Sadie offers Imogen, who still makes Sadie feel unwelcome, a ride to the ferry. Imogen does not answer her. Sadie feels she can...
