Summary

Nella and Malaika arrive at Curl Central for the reading that Hazel is hosting. Owen arrives a few minutes before the event is scheduled to begin, but Hazel still has not appeared. When she finally does, she takes the stage and announces that Richard intends to make an enormous donation to the non-profit and has agreed to begin enfolding new diversity requirements in his hiring and publishing policies at Wagner. After the reading, Nella manages to get ahold of Hazel, and immediately accuses her of going behind her back and slipping her hateful notes. Hazel deflects and brings Nella over to Richard, who ignores her entirely but appears infatuated with Hazel. Nella puts together that Richard must be attracted to Black women.
