Summary
Nora is called into the police station by Coleman along with Maryam. Coleman informs them that, after consulting the library security cameras, the car that hit Driss matches Anderson Baker’s car. Nora and Maryam both insist that it was intentional, as Anderson had instigated a contentious rivalry between the two businesses. Coleman has already talked to Anderson, who said he simply thought he had hit a coyote.
Driss recalls how Anderson, on a day when The Pantry was full, stormed in to the diner and began yelling at Driss about a customer’s car which was parked in a spot supposedly reserved for the bowling alley.
Nora and Maryam go to Anderson’s arraignment. Nora is haunted by seeing A.J. Baker there: Anderson’s son, he had extensively bullied Nora is high school. Anderson’s lawyer builds the accident narrative, and...
