Summary

Part 4 starts with a page before Chapter 32 explaining it is now October 1877 - September 1880 beginning in London, England. May has moved to London, as Paris and the Salon did not yield the results she was hoping for, and May has been ill. One afternoon while May is resting, she opens the door to find Alice and her new husband. Alice drags her to tea and seems slightly remorseful but also accusatory of May for their estrangement, thinking May should have reached out to her. May in turn thinks about how lonely she has been.

After Alice leaves, May tries to walk home but is overcome with dizziness until a friend helps her home. Returning home, she receives a letter from Louisa that says Marmee is very ill and May must come home. May is upset about the thought of her mother so ill...
