Noa

Noa is one of the novel’s two narrators. She is a sixteen year-old Dutch girl who is thrown out of her house by her parents after she sleeps with a Nazi and becomes pregnant. After the baby is taken away from Noa in the Lebensborn Program, she comes to work and live at a train station where she is deeply haunted by the past. There, she rescues and cares for a baby Jewish boy she names Theo. Noa is taken in by the Neuhoff circus where she performs as an aerialist. Noa is incredibly kind and gentle. She falls in love with Luc. The night they are to rendezvous and run away together, Noa is killed in the circus fire while Luc is killed in a German attack.
