Summary

In Chapter 13, Ona and Quinn decide to visit Ona’s son Laurentas to see if he knows where her birth certificate is. Laurentas is the son that Ona had when she was 14 and gave away to Maud-Lucy. Quinn drives, and he makes a stop at Belle’s house, inviting Belle to come with them as a chance to get out of the house. Belle and Ona quickly take up a semi-friendly rapport.

The narrative then transitions to another recording of Ona’s life story. Ona discusses divorcing Howard because they were no longer compatible with one another, and she also mentions—with a considerable amount of sadness—that Maud-Lucy had concealed the truth of Laurentas’ true parentage from Laurentas until shortly before Maud-Lucy died.
