Summary

Hornclaw visits the Kangs’ store, discovering it “shuttered and padlocked” (219). She is unsure why she came. She knows that warning Kang’s father still might not save him. Suddenly “someone yanks Hornclaw” by the neck (220). She “strikes the person,” discovering it is Dr. Kang (220). Kang is furious, thrusting a piece of paper at Hornclaw. He blames her for Haeni’s disappearance. The police investigation showed CCTV footage of a woman “walking with a young girl” (223). It was impossible to distinguish the woman’s face, but the fax Kang received pointed to Hornclaw.

The fax says Hornclaw must report to the given address “at 2 p.m. on the 5th” or Haeni will die (227). Haeni is safe in the meantime. Hornclaw realizes Bullfight is behind the kidnapping. She begs Kang not to show the fax to the authorities and to trust her. She will report...
