Point of View

The novel is written in first person from a narrator who is not named until the end of the novel. This narrator is actually the Stone that lies at the center of the village called Stone-in-the-Glen. The Stone is aware of everything that goes on in and around the village, ranging back to the time when people first began to build. As is always the case, the reader has to decide if this narrator is able and willing to be honest and reliable. The fact that this is literally a rock will likely affect how the reader evaluates this narrator. It may seem that the Stone is more reliable and honest because it is a rock with no obvious reason to lie or withhold facts.
