Summary
Ogress immediately likes the children, and they like her. She recognizes them as “Her favorite family in all of Stone-in-the-Glen” (318). Harold makes the introductions. The children can see the pools of the Ogress's tears. They are careful not to move suddenly to frighten the Ogress. They begin to clean up the mess left by the attackers. Elijah builds up the fire. Cass climbs up and hugs the Ogress. She has never been hugged. She hugs Cass back. The other orphans join in the hug, followed by the crows and Dog. She plans to keep this moment always. Anthea is impressed by the Ogress's neat workbench. She learns that the crows often bring her things that have been thrown away. Anthea is not surprised that the crows are so clever. Bartleby can tell Anthea has an idea. She tells Elijah they need some stories...
