Summary

Chapter 21 is titled “Things Don't Get Better.” Anthea believes there is something wrong with Cass, but Cass will not talk about it. Cass gives away most of her possessions. She finds a book open to a page about making a compass. Bartleby dismisses Anthea's concern. Cass has a talent for darning socks, ensuring that there is a good foundation so that the patch does not feel bulky. She hopes that she has planned her departure with the same kind of care.
