Summary

In Chapter 49, Valens arrives and Fletcher knows that Lovett is watching the tournament. In his first battle, Fletcher beats two of the commoners for the right to advance. He injures Rory's Mite in the process and is relieved later to discover the Mite survived.

In Chapter 50, Sir Caulder reveals the order for the second round. Seraph will fight Tarquin and Sylva will fact Isadora. Othello and Rufus will face two other members of the nobles, Rufus and Malik. In this battle, four powerful adult summoners cast a barrier spell around each combatant. Rook announces that the he, along with the Favershams and Zacharias, will provide the spell for Fletcher. Scipio objects, but gives in to that group with the exception of Rook. He takes Rook's place.
