Summary
Chapter 16 is titled “Blockade in the Snow” and is dated January 1-February 27, 1776. This scene picks up as Arnold was recovering from his hospital bed. The next day, Arnold learned that all his men who survived the fight had become prisoners of war. Sheinkin included several first-person accounts from men who were captured. Daniel Morgan was the last to be captured. He refused to give his sword to any of the British soldiers, but handed it over to a priest. Arnold, on crutches, did not have enough men to maintain his blockade. Many Americans were excited and supportive of Arnold's continued efforts. Washington sent a letter promoting Arnold to general.
