Summary

Chapter 6 is titled “Across the Lake” and is dated May 10-May 15, 1775. When Arnold and Allen met face-to-face, both men insisted on leading the Green Mountain Boys to Fort Ticonderoga. The Boys refused to follow Arnold, but Arnold's official paperwork prompted a compromise in which they would lead together. They stole a boat from someone who remained loyal to Britain. Arnold and Allen were in the first group to cross the lake. With daylight approaching, they decided to attack immediately instead of waiting for more of their forces. Arnold was happy when he realized he could run faster than Allen, meaning he was the first to reach the fort. One British soldier stood guard.
