Summary

In Chapter 24, "April 22, 2009, Rose, Life 5," Rose, Luke, and Addie sleep in one bed. Rose thinks about Thomas.

She and Thomas "are on a break" (228). Rose wanted space so she could work on her marriage, and focus on Addie. Thomas wanted her to leave Luke. Rose wished she could, but was too afraid.

Luke and Rose's relationship has not improved. She has begun fantasizing "about Luke dying" (231). She remembers when she used to love him. Then she wonders if she should let herself enjoy being a mother. Then she considers asking for a divorce.

In Chapter 25, "July 14, 2007, Rose, Life 6," Rose suggests she and Luke adopt. She still has not gotten pregnant. She feels relieved by this plan.

The next morning, she discovers she is pregnant. She feels something strange, like happiness. When she tells Jill, Jill suggests abortion. Rose wants to believe she can...
