Summary

In "March 2, 2008, Rose, Life 3," Rose gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, Adelaide. Overcome by joy, Rose cannot believe she once did not want children.

In Chapter 1, "August 15, 2006, Rose, Life 1," Luke chastises Rose for not taking her prenatal vitamins. Rose is irritable. She has not been taking them because she does not want kids. Luke cannot believe he married "the one woman in the world who doesn't want a baby" (8). Rose hopes this will not be the sum of her life.

In Chapter 2, "March 14, 1998, Rose Lives 1 - 9," Rose visits a young photographer named Luke to get her portrait taken. During the session, she starts crying. He is kind, encouraging her to share her story with him.
