Summary
Wood Mountain arrives at his sister’s house. Bernie says Cal is already angry about the baby boy, so she cannot say anything about Vera. She does comment that Patrice is mixed up with Jack, who is still a junkie. Bernie gives her brother money to stay elsewhere and avoid Cal.
Wood Mountain checks out Jack’s new front at Log Jam 26. The Decatur Hotel does not allow Indians, so he gets a room at a cage hotel. He enters Log Jam 26, where he stretches his dinner so he can see the waterjack before asking after Pixie. The waitress praises the new waterjack, but she is the third in a short period: the first dead, the second dying. Wood Mountain watches Jack work the room.
