Growing Up
Growing up and embracing a new aspect of identity is a key part of Alice’s story. In the first novel in the series, Alice is presented as a very immature teenager. She is exceptionally wealthy and privileged, and she does not think much about anyone (or anything) else but herself. Her youth makes it easy for her to be self-centered, and her wealth adds fuel to the fire. However, during the course of the first novel, she investigates the murder of Brooke Donovan, her former best friend, and something shifts inside her. Instead of only being concerned with herself, she becomes exceptionally interested in the idea of justice and helping others.
