Rain
Rain is a symbol of rebirth and rejuvenation. In The Night Diary, the one occurrence of rain comes at a critical point when Nisha believes Amil is on his deathbed, Dadi is next to her praying for his recovery, and Papa is off searching for water to keep his family alive. The rain hits them all at the same moment, unexpectedly, and much-awaited after a dry spell in the weather. It pours down upon them, giving Amil the sustenance he needs to live, giving Nisha and Dadi the joy of seeing Amil get well, and giving Papa the chance to laugh after days of stress.
