Summary
In Chapter 11, Ruben’s “sharpest memories” from the Netanyahus’ visit “are of being outside in the weather” (193). The cold and snow increased his anxiety.
On their way to the Corbindale Inn, Netanyahu ranted about the embarrassing visit. He was as much of an overactor as Judy, calling Ruben and the committee “Morons, Imbeciles, Idiots” (193). Ruben insisted that he had survived, asking what Netanyahu would say if he were in his shoes (194). Netanyahu thought this “the smartest question” Ruben had “asked all day” (194). Netanyahu thought it was embarrassing the department had asked Ruben to host him simply because he was Jewish. They went on to argue about power dynamics. Ruben thought Netanyahu should accept being the ornament on the department’s “holiday tree” (196).
