The Island, Chapter 2 Summary
Owen Brademas is the organizer of the archeological dig of which Kathryn is part. A morose, introspective man, Owen often spends evenings with Kathryn and James, speaking together until the early hours of the morning. Owen is astounded by Kathryn's continued willingness to work, even as the dig appears completely fruitless.
One morning, James goes to the dig site to see what Kathryn and Tap do while he is away. That night, Owen sits with the family and plays his recorder. After Tap goes to sleep, James inquires as to Kathryn and Owen's plans after the dig. They are not forthcoming with information. Instead, they discuss religion.
