Summary

In Chapter 81: Pride, the draccus is pinned and killed beneath the giant iron wheel. The roof on which Kvothe stands gives way beneath him, and he falls into darkness below.

In Chapter 82: Ash and Elm…, Kvothe awakens in a bed, bathed, warm, and his wounds tended. A pretty young woman named Nellie explains that no one was killed, thanks to Kvothe’s work. No one has seen Denna, so Kvothe heads out to find her despite his injuries. When he gets there, Denna is gone. Kvothe is hurt. As he returns to Trebon, the mayor and constable speak with Kvothe about what happened to the town. They thank him for what he has done, believing he had summoned God to the town’s aid. They reveal they have burned and buried the carcass of the draccus, mistaking it for a demon. Neither one...
