Elijah Baley

Elijah Baley is a detective from Earth who is requested, by name, to investigate a murder on the distant planet of Solaria. The fact that Elijah is requested is extremely odd because Earth and Solaria, while not at war, have a very strained relationship, and it is widely known that Solaria feels vastly superior to Earthmen and believes them to be germ infested. Elijah will go to the planet reluctantly, and while he knows that it is his job, his first thoughts are simply on how he is going to get home. It will become clear that Elijah has principles and worries about more than just his own happiness when he is clearly presented with an opportunity to go home and chooses to stay. When Elijah chooses to stay, he does so with the belief that much more is at stake than the murder of one man...
