Trinidad
Trinidad is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea. It was first inhabited by natives of South America. The island was explored by Christopher Columbus in 1498, after which Spain began to colonize the island. Trinidad has been alternately colonized by Spain, England, France, and Holland, and as such, it now has a culture comprised of very diverse influences. V.S. Naipaul is from Trinidad but is of Indian (South Asian) heritage. The Mystic Masseur takes place in Trinidad, and its characters are also of Indian (South Asian) heritage.
