Summary
Ramlogan soon sends out invitations for the wedding, and many friends, relatives, and neighbors begin visiting him to wish him well. Among these visitors is Ganesh’s aunt, who paid for his father’s cremation. Ganesh mentally refers to her as The Great Belcher, as she belches quite often. The novel gives no other name for the aunt. On the day of the wedding, the aunt and a few other women ceremonially anoint Ganesh with saffron. Many people attend the wedding, and the ceremony lasts for almost the entire night. The wedding ceremony is followed the dowry ceremony, in which Ramlogan makes dowry offers until Ganesh accepts the offer by eating the plate of food in front of him.
