Molly Gray
Molly is the protagonist and narrator of The Mystery Guest. At 29 years old, Molly is the Head Maid at the fictional Regency Grand Hotel. Prose depicts Molly as intelligent and detail-oriented, but her inability to comprehend basic social norms alienates her from some people. Raised by her grandmother alone, Molly learned etiquette, good grammar, and how to thoroughly clean living spaces. Molly's grandmother also taught her to treat people with respect and to not make assumptions about people she is inclined to judge. Despite knowing that people tend to look down on maids, Molly takes great pride in her work. Molly becomes frustrated when maids like Cheryl violate the maid's code of conduct to which Molly strictly adheres.
