Summary
In Chapter 18, Molly feels guilty on her way to work for having falsely accused Preston. She wonders if everyone is right when they call her a failure who does not grasp basic things. Preston treats Molly with his usual politeness and grace, however. He brings her to Angela, who has discovered Serena’s missing possessions listed on a memorabilia website called KultureVulture.com. The fountain pen and “love letter” addressed to Serena sold for $500.
The vendor, who uses the moniker Grim Reaper, has also listed the scotch Mr. Black (the dead man from the first Molly the Maid book) drank before he died. When Molly sees listings for the cue cards from Grimthorpe’s podium and a book Grimthorpe signed for Lily, she worries Lily must be behind the murder. She remembers Lily whispering: “The maid is always to blame.”
