Money symbolizes freedom and hubris (arrogance). After Nashe inherits $200,000 from his father, he decides to spend a year driving aimlessly around the country. He then decides to risk the last of that money in a high-stakes poker game. Meanwhile, Flower and Stone use their massive wealth to exert power and influence over poorer people such as Nashe and Jack.
Driving
Driving symbolizes the search for certainty and a sense of self. When Nashe decides to go on a prolonged, aimless road trip, his motivations are abstruse beyond the simple fact that he has the financial means to do so. His aimless wandering seems to represent a search for meaning. Nashe still seems to be searching for meaning in the final moment of the book, when he drives head-on into another car.
