Hood River Valley
Besides for a short trip that Alice makes to Portland, the entirety of the novel transpires in the Hood River Valley, located in northwest Oregon. Both Alice and Jake are natives to the town of Hood River, while Jake is a transplant who moved there from New York. Hood River is an agricultural valley that produces large quantities of commercial fruits. This economy attracts many migrant workers who come to pick the fruit, and is comprised largely of farmers and ranchers, with a new community based around burgeoning tech companies.
