Room 215

Room 215 is the room Keith's parents rent for him for the Fourth of July weekend. There is a bed, a bedside table with a phone on it, and a window. Under the window is a knothole in the pine wall down by the floor. Room 215 is the central location for most of the events in the novel. Ralph first sees the motorcycle in the room, and he and Keith have all of their conversations inside the room.

Room 216

Room 216 is the room adjacent to Keith's room. Mr. and Mrs. Gridley rent Room 216 for themselves. It is a corner room with twin beds and a private bath. Because his parents are often in their own room, Keith gets to have freedom in his own room and he can talk to Ralph and concoct plans for how to use the motorcycle without his parents seeing what he is doing.
